The government has set up several state corporations to facilitate a conducive business environment in kenya.
Anti-Counterfeiting Agency (ACA)
The Anti-Counterfeit Agency was established as a State Corporation under the Anti-Counterfeit Act 2008 with the mandates to educate and inform the public about counterfeiting, combat counterfeiting, trade and other dealings in counterfeit goods, devise and promote counterfeiting training programs, and coordinate with national, regional, or international organizations involved in combating counterfeiting.
It is currently a state corporation under the Ministry of Industrialization. Although Kenya’s Parliament passed the Act in 2008, it went into effect on July 1, 2009, with the primary goal of prohibiting the trade in counterfeit goods. The Agency was established in June 2010.

East African Portland Cement
Since 1933, Kenya’s main cement producer and manufacturer of the highest calibre cement has been the East African Portland Cement Company. By supplying cement, the “lifeblood” of the building industry since the country’s establishment, we have contributed to Kenya’s development from the ground up in areas like housing, education, health, tourism, transportation, and communication.
In Kenya, people hold Blue Triangle Cement—our primary brand—up as a symbol of quality and dependability. Historic buildings all around the nation, including KICC, have been built with Blue Triangle Cement. Blue Triangle Cement has been used in the construction of national landmarks that will serve as highways and dams in the future, like the Thika Superhighway and the Chemususu Dam.
Export Processing Zone
The Export Processing Zones Authority was formed in 1990 under the EPZ Act, CAP 517, Laws of Kenya. The Authority’s mandate is to support export-oriented projects by fostering a favourable environment and encouraging them. The EPZ Authority is a State Corporation that reports to the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
The Authority is overseen by a Board made up of 15 members chosen from the public and private sectors. The President selects a member to serve as Chairman of the Board.

Kenya Accreditation Service
The Kenya Accreditation Service is the only National Accreditation Body (NAB) in Kenya that is authorized to provide accreditation services (KENAS). According to Legal Notice No. 55 of May 2009, it was established with the States Corporations Act, Cap. 446. It certifies the competence of Conformity Assessment Bodies (CABs) to perform specific conformity assessment tasks.
KENAS is a member of the International Accreditation Forum (IAF), the leading global organisation in charge of regulating accreditation practices, as well as an associate member of the International Laboratory Accrediting Cooperation (ILAC). KENAS certifies production by the regional directives, applicable laws and government rules, health, safety, and environmental protection standards, as well as market and customer requirements.
Kenya Bureau Standards

July 1974 saw the establishment of the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS). The Board of Directors of KEBS is known as the National Standards Council (NSC). It is the governing body in charge of directing and controlling the management of the Bureau’s finances and operations. Within the broad parameters specified by the NSC, the Managing Director, who serves as the Bureau’s Chief Executive, is in charge of managing day-to-day activities.
Kenya Export Promotion and Branding Agency
By Legal Notice No. 110 of August 9, 2019, the Export Promotion Council and Brand Kenya Board merged to form the Kenya Export Promotion and Branding Agency (BrandKE), a State Corporation established under the State Corporations Act, Cap. 44To to increase Kenya’s exports of goods and services, BRANDKE carries out nation branding and export promotion initiatives and strategies.
Special Economic Zones Authority
In 2015, a law passed by the Parliament created the Special Economic Zones Authority (SEZA) (Special Economic Zones Act No. 16 of 2015). The organisation is in charge of encouraging, promoting, and protecting both domestic and foreign direct investments in Special Economic Zones (SEZs). The Authority oversees both public and private SEZs in Kenya. It was established to foster an enabling environment for investors by building integrated infrastructure facilities and offering incentives that lower the barriers to doing business in the most dynamic economic hub in Eastern Africa.
Micro and Small Enterprises Authority (MSEA)
The mission of the Micro and Small Enterprises Authority, a governmental corporation, is to develop and evaluate policies and programs for the Micro sector in Kenya.
Kenya National Trading Corporation
Kenya National Trading Corporation Ltd. (KNTC) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Kenyan government, administered by the Ministry of East African Affairs, Commerce, and Tourism. The Corporation has several goals, one of which is to promote and expand the wholesale and retail trade.
Kenya Investment Authority (KenInvest)

Investment Promotion Act No. 6 of 2004 established the Kenya Investment Authority (KenInvest), a statutory organisation, with the primary goal of promoting investments in Kenya. Its duties include arranging local and worldwide investment promotion activities, after-care services for new and current investments, and the facilitation of the implementation of new investment projects. The three main activities of KenInvest are advocacy for public policy, promotion of investments, and facilitation of investments, which includes investor tracking and after-care services.
Kenya Industrial Research and Development Institute (KIRDI)
Established in 1979 by the Ministry of Trade and Industry, the Kenya Industrial Research and Development Institute (KIRDI) is a national research organisation with the responsibility for multidisciplinary research and development in the fields of industrial and related technologies. The institute’s primary goals are managed by the Research and Technological Innovation (RTI) section. Engineering, Energy and Environment, ICT, Leather & Textiles, and Food Technology Divisions are the main RTI division.
Kenya Industrial Estates (KIE)
Kenya Industrial Estates Ltd was founded in 1967 to promote the growth of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) throughout the country, with a particular emphasis on industry clustering, rural industrialization, and value addition to locally available raw materials. Despite the rapidly changing policy, economic, and market environments, the institution has successfully carried out its mandate. The last three years have seen a significant turnaround in the institution’s operations, including the posting of profit, the resumption of industrial estate construction, the streamlining of systems and processes through ISO 9001:2008 Certification, the installation of modern ICT hardware and software to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery, and organizational restructuring, including the establishment of a risk management department, and skills development.
