Let us bring to light 10 little Known Universities In Kenya
The country has 30 public universities and 30 privately owned universities. Also, 30 more universities are in the process of securing letters of interim authority.
Since the enactment of the university act of 2012, the country has witnessed rapid growth in several universities. The government’s vision to fight illiteracy coupled with the surging population has seen the number of students seeking higher education increase.
Most of the popular public universities are located in major towns. Kiambu County and Nairobi County house 60% of this tertiary education institution.
But it is important to know that there are other good universities spread across the country which offer quality education at a relatively low cost.
1. Alupe University

Gazetted on 22nd July 2020 and Located in Teso South Constituency.
It is fully registered and accredited by Commission for University Education (CUE) Kenya.
The university has a modern well-equipped ped laboratories. Making a science-based based learning institution that majors in health, biomedical/biological, information, and agricultural sciences. I of its 3000 students take Other prog ms like education, science and business management.
2. Bomet University College (BUC)

Bomet University College is a Constituent College of Moi University that was established under Legal Notice Number 145 of 27th July 2017.
Currently, the institution has slightly over 2000 students, unlike at its inception when the university had a pal of 200 students and few classes.
3. Garissa University

It is the only Public University situated in the north-Eastern region. Garissa University is located in the Garissa Township Constituency.
It was chartered in 2017.
Garissa University was established in 2011. The university is a known centre for technology that solve humanity’s problems.
4. Kaimosi Friends University College

KFUC is located inside the Kaimosi Mission complex in vihiga county along the Chavakali, Kapsabet road.

5. Koitaleel Samoei University College
This is another little known Public University, It is found in Emgwen Constituency, Nandi County
It borrows its name from Koitaleel Arap Samoa who was Kalenjinji’s leader during the pre-colonial era.
It offers the following courses master’s in Business Administration (MBA),
- Master’s in Education (M.ED).
- Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com.).
- Bachelor of Education – Arts
- Diploma in Early childhood Education (ECE.).
6. Mama Ngina University.
Young and budding Mama Ngina university is located in Gatundu South Constituency, Kiambu county.
Mama Ngina has a student population numbering close to 5000.
7. Turkana University College
It s inaugurated on 27th January 2017 under the umbrella of Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST). It has over 7000 students.
8. Taita Taveta University College (TTUC)
TTUC is a Public University located in Taita Teveta county.
Currently, only it has 2500 students.
The University College operates four schools.
- The School of Mines and Engineering
- School of Business Economics and Social Sciences
- School of Science and Informatics and School of Agriculture
- Earth and Environmental Sciences.
9. Karatina University (karu)
KARU is situated in Mathira Constituency, Nyeri County.
This institution started as a branch of Moi University in the Mt kenya region in 2007 before it was given a charter in 2013.
The University has five Academic Schools namely
- Agriculture & Biotechnology
- Business
- Education & Social Sciences
- Natural Resources & Environmental Studies
- Pure & Applied Sciences.
